Oliver, son of Andrea, former president of San Quirico, an old opponent of the bianconeri, plays in Lecco. A curious thread of fate unites two generations in the sign of the same result.
Pianese is increasingly the pride of Amiata soccer and represents a beautiful fairy tale. It goes against the trend: a small town like Piancastagnaio has reached professional soccer and does not seem to want to slow down its race to even higher levels.
After winning the playoffs in its own group, it was eliminated in the national ones, in the race that could have taken the bianconeri even towards Serie B after a double confrontation with the emblazoned Lecco. The two matches played between Piancastagnaio and Lecco both ended 1-1, with the Lombard formation nabbing the draw in extremis thanks to a penalty awarded in the 96th minute and scored in the 98th minute.
Even with two draws, Pianese was eliminated on the basis of a bizarre regulation – here we enter the ranks of questionable things in Italian soccer – in which the team with the best placement in the final standings is rewarded, but in two separate rounds: thus establishing criteria that should be homogeneous by taking two different leagues as reference. Logic would have dictated that the fate of qualification would be decided after extra time and possibly penalty kicks.
The epilogue embittered Pianese but, at the same time, made it proud of the path it had taken. And compliments to the black-and-white club also come from opponents, particularly Oliver Urso, Lecco’s starter and a protagonist in the two playoff matches with thick performances in the service of the team.
Evidently, the relationship between the Urso family and Pianese is in the 1-1 draw. In 2004-2005, in the round of the Tuscan Cup for Eccellenza and Promozione, San Quirico, of which I was president, drew 1-1 with Pianese, which was already then led by Maurizio Sani, who took his team to these very high levels. Today Pianese drew twice 1-1 against Lecco, where my son Oliver plays. I take this opportunity to congratulate Pianese, super president Maurizio Sani, and coach Alessandro Birindelli: we will hear from him for a long time.
